Arrogance and Overconsumption

I have always been concerned about humanity's excessive consumption of resources.
Some people would call me a “green activist” or a “climate alarmist”.
It is partially true, but I was not just worried about planet Earth whenever I advocated a “greener” lifestyle.

Most humans are arrogant and self-centered.
Often times, I see my friends wasting their paper, water, food, etc, and ask them not to do so.
A common response that I would get is an easy comment like, “That is only one sheet of paper; me saving that won't ‘save the world’.”, along with a scoff or laugh.

But I’m no tree hugger.

I’m not saying such things because I find each sheet of paper, each tree to be precious beyond compare.
The importance of a single sheet of paper would converge to 0.
However, this is the matter comparing the values between “the value of a new sheet of paper” and “you using the sheet of paper”. And statistically speaking, your thoughtless actions are more likely to lead to a value creation of negative sign. It is unlikely that your need would outweigh the value of raw sheet of paper.

Unfortunately, many of us do not realize this truth. People tend to overvalue themselves and only themselves. As someone less stupid than the most of us once said, we cannot know everything, but we should at least have the virtue of being aware of our own ignorance.

Favorite food on the date of posting:
I have tried many types of ravioli in many Italian restaurants (cheap ~ super expensive), but Costco's frozen spinach&mozzarella ravioli is by far the best.

  1. This is a great little post and the type I want to see more of. Do you think the above ravioli is properly packaged? Regarding consumption and green behavior, I am constantly uncomfortable with the packaging of things like yogurt (three spoonfuls of yogurt and all that plastic?) Pororo juice (plastic cap, plastic bottle, plastic cap underneath the first plastic cap), and EVERYTHING given on Chuseok of Solal. Anyways, rant over.
